Chelsea defender doubtful to play against Southampton
Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta has been deemed doubtful to play against Southampton in the Premier League clash on Boxing Day.
The Spain international has endured a mixed set of performances with the Blues this term but he has still remained a vital figure in the starting XI.
Azpilicueta recently came up with a commanding display from right wing-back against Spurs but he unfortunately picked up a minor hamstring problem towards the end of the game.
Speaking in a press conference, Lampard has acknowledged that Azpilicueta is struggling with the muscular concern but remains optimistic that he will make his comeback against the Saints.
In case the Spaniard misses out, Reece James could be called into action and it will be interesting to see whether Lampard continues to stick with the three-at-the-back formation tomorrow.
The trio of Antonio Rudiger, Fikayo Tomori and Kurt Zouma dominated the proceedings against Spurs at the heart of the defence but Lampard may revert to a traditional four-man backline.
