Atletico Madrid want Portuguese manager to replace Diego Simeone
Atletico Madrid are reportedly considering Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo as the successor to Diego Simeone.
The Portuguese gaffer is considered as one of the top managers in the English top-flight after helping Wolves grow over the years.
According to the Sun, Rojiblancos want the Portuguese gaffer to take over the reins at Wanda Metropolitano, should Simeone leave this summer.
The Argentine has been put under scrutiny following a below-par season in La Liga despite spending big last summer.
Earlier it was reported that Simeone’s compatriot Mauricio Pochettino is one of the candidates for the manager's job at Atletico. Pochettino is currently out of action following his sacking by Tottenham months ago.
Santo's Wolverhampton have been brilliant in the English top-flight this season, currently sixth on the table and are fighting for a place in the Champions League. They have defeated Pep Guardiola's Man City and Jose Mourinho’s Spurs in the process.
The Portuguese tactician’s style of play is akin to Rojiblancos – preferring to sit deep and hit on the break with quick transitions.
Despite the exit speculation, Simeone has found some momentum of late, especially after defeating Liverpool in the UCL knockouts.
