Rio Ferdinand urges Liverpool to sign German star
Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand believes Liverpool should make the move to sign Timo Werner from RB Leipzig when the transfer window reopens.
The Reds have depended on Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah for the frontline duties but they have lacked sufficient back-up with Divock Origi being the only striking option on the bench.
Speaking on Instagram Live, Ferdinand feels the Reds should seal the signature of Werner this summer, particularly with the lack of quality behind the attacking trident.
"If I'm Liverpool, I 100 per cent take him. They haven't got that backup at the moment for that front three," he told earlier this week.
"As well as [Divock] Origi's done, the Champions League exploits, I still don't think he's really... I'd want more than that if I was Liverpool."
Liverpool are expected to make at least three marquee signings this summer after barely spending in the transfer market over the past 20 months.
The club are currently on course to win their maiden Premier League title but their procession will be delayed by the ongoing suspension due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Werner, who has also been linked with Chelsea, has been in stupendous form for RB Leipzig this term, contributing 27 goals and 12 assists from just 36 games.
