Chelsea in advanced talks to sign Champions League finalist

Chelsea are reportedly in advanced talks to land the signature of Thiago Silva on a free transfer.

The Blues are keen on reinforcing the backline ahead of next season after conceding 54 goals from 38 league games last term.

They are currently close to the signing of Ben Chilwell from Leicester City to strengthen the left-back department and a confirmation is expected soon.

Thereafter, the Blues are likely to shift the focus to adding a new centre-back and The Athletic claims that Silva has emerged as the prime target.

Furthermore, it is revealed that the club are in advanced negotiations with the player over a transfer once his contract with Paris Saint-German concludes.

Silva is expected to leave Les Parisiens after the Champions League final against Bayern Munich on Sunday and he is said to relish the prospect of playing in the Premier League.

He is set to demand a two-year contract and the Blues are prepared to meet the expectations. The west London side have also been linked with West Ham United's Declan Rice, but the £80m price tag remains a major stumbling block.
