Alexandre Lacazette 'really happy' for Arsenal defender after West Ham draw
Arsenal forward Alexandre Lacazette was full of praise for Calum Chambers after his impressive showing against West Ham United in the Premier League.
The England international sustained a serious knee injury in December 2019 and he only recently returned to the first-team plans under Mikel Arteta.
Chambers made his second league start of the campaign against the Hammers and he caught the eye with as many as eight crosses.
Two of them indirectly contributed to the own goals scored by the Hammers, as the Gunners came from 3-0 behind to share the spoils.
He struggled with the defensive side of his game, but came up with a vital interception to deny Jesse Lingard from converting into an empty net.
Speaking after the game, Lacazette was full of praise for the 26-year-old, who got the nod over Hector Bellerin in the right-back role.
He told Sky Sports: "He worked a lot. He worked a lot in training, individual as well, and when he had some time [on the pitch] from the coach."
"He's showed he deserves to play for Arsenal. I’m really happy for him. I hope the best for him for the rest of the season."
Chambers' current deal with the Gunners expires in 15 months' time and it remains to be seen whether he is handed an extension.
