Roma enter race to sign Arsenal midfielder?
Roma have reportedly joined Everton in the race to sign Ainsley Maitland-Niles during the January transfer window.
The England international was desperate to join the Toffees on loan last summer, but manager Mikel Arteta blocked his exit.
Maitland-Niles has since struggled for regular game time, and he could push for a fresh challenge at the turn of the year.
According to Calciomercato, the Giallorossi have entered the pursuit of the midfielder, and they are eyeing an initial loan deal.
They are likely to face competition from the Toffees, who are planning a permanent offer after being snubbed over the summer.
Maitland-Niles' contract with the Gunners expires at the end of next season. The club may block his potential departure next month.
With Mohamed Elneny and Thomas Partey out for the African Cup of Nations, the club could be short of options in midfield.
Granit Xhaka and Albert Sambi Lokonga are the only other specialist central midfielders in the squad. Maitland-Niles may need to provide cover.
