Mikel Arteta confirms fresh injury blow for Arsenal defender

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has confirmed a fresh injury blow for right-back Takehiro Tomiyasu.

The Japan international has been a fantastic signing for the Gunners, but he has barely played this year amid injuries.

He was recently out with a calf problem, and it appears that he has now suffered a similar setback in training.

Speaking after the 2-1 league win over Wolves, Arteta confirmed that Tomiyasu is out of action with a fresh issue.

Rather than a recurrence of the injury, he has now suffered the setback on his 'other calf' which should worry the Gunners.

The north London giants currently have the position covered through Cedric Soares, who has been in impressive form.

In case the Portuguese suffers an injury, they have a suitable replacement in the form of Ben White, who is versatile.

White has largely partnered Gabriel in central defence, but he can comfortably slot into the right-back role.

The Gunners are presently just one point off the final Champions League spot, but most importantly have two games in hand.
