Tottenham lead pack to sign Josko Gvardiol
Tottenham are firmly in pole position to sign Croatian defender Josko Gvardiol from RB Leipzig. The 20-year-old starlet, who can play at left-back or centre-back, is available for around 45 million euros and Tottenham are ready to spend the bulk of their transfer budget on the Zagreb-born youngster.
Chelsea have long been linked with a move for the Leipzig player, but recent transfer embargoes have cost the Blues dearly, with bitter Premier League rivals Spurs now jumping ahead of Chelsea in the pecking order to sign the Croatian international. With 10 caps to his name, Gvardiol is an established international and is set to lead his country's national team for years to come.
In the Bundesliga, Gvardiol appeared 29 last season and scored two goals. Tottenham are looking for defensive talent to replace the likes of Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez, both who could be leaving White Hart Lane this summer. Dier has been linked with a move to Southampton on loan, whilst Sanchez is wanted by his former club Ajax.
Gvardiol has also caught the eye of German champions Bayern Munich, but the club have spent the majority of their budget signing Sadio Mane from Liverpool.
