Ethan Ampadu set for Italian job
Chelsea have approved a loan transfer for Wales international centre back and defensive midfielder Ethan Ampadu, with the 21-year-old set for a season long spell with Italian club Empoli. The Exeter-born youngster had been invited to training last week, but now looks set to leave the club for what would be his fourth loan spell.
Previous experiences playing for RB Leipzig, Sheffield United and Venezia have helped ensure Ampadu is a full regular Welsh international, but so far he has been unable to force his way into Chelsea's starting eleven. A return to Italy appeals to Ampadu, and Empoli have struck a deal with the Blues.
Thomas Tuchel is a fan of the player, but has informed the youngster that he is unlikely to be involved this season beyond domestic cup competitions, as the Stamford Bridge outfit have already added Kalidou Koulibaly and Marc Cucurella to their defensive ranks on mega money deals this summer transfer window.
Ampadu will move to a side that are progressing well in recent years, having finished 14th in Serie A last season.
