Liverpool to make move for Sander Berge
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is considering a transfer deadline day move for Sheffield United's midfielder Sander Berge, with the Norway international set for Anfield to play as backup in the club's midfield. Berge has just begun his fourth season for the Championship side, and is valued at around £25 million by his club.
Berge has scored 9 goals in 66 games since his arrival in 2020, and began this season in excellent form with 2 goals in 6 games. At 6 foot 5, Berge adds height to a midfield and is comfortable playing in a defensive or attacking midfield role.
Interestingly, Liverpool are ready to match the reported £35 million release clause in Berge's contract in order to secure a deal, but have entered negotiations with Sheffield United for a cheaper deal.
Thiago, Naby Keita, Curtis Jones and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are all out of action for Liverpool, leaving the club in an injury crisis at this time.
Despite a famous 9-0 win over Bournemouth last weekend, it is understood Jurgen Klopp wants to bring at least two new faces in before the transfer deadline in three days time.
