Leeds United have agreed a fee with Red Bull Salzburg to sign Austrian international defender Maximilian Wober in a deal worth close to 19 million euros. Wober, who has previously played with Rapid Vienna, Dutch giants Ajax as well as Spanish club Sevilla, has caught the eye for RB Salzburg's first team in recent months.

The Elland Road outfit have made strengthening their defensive ranks their top priority for the January transfer window, and with a move for Wober will procure one of Austria's best young players. At just 24-years-old, Wober has plenty to learn but has already demonstrated the ability that has seen him since earn 14 caps for his national side.

Wober still has 2 and a half years remaining on his Salzburg deal, and therefore Leeds have had to pay a small premium to secure the defender's signature.

Leeds will play Manchester City at Elland Road this evening as the club return to Premier League football after the World Cup, and Jesse Marsch will be using his connections to sign Wober, having previously managed both RB Salzburg and RB Leipzig.
