Nathan Tella joins Bayer Leverkusen
Bayer Leverkusen have sealed a 20 million euro transfer move for 24-year-old right winger Nathan Tella on a long-term deal, in a surprise deal closed just before the end of the transfer deadline. It is understood that a fee of around £20 million has been paid for the player, who came through Arsenal's youth ranks before transferring to Southampton in 2017, and staying there for a total of six years, playing 36 Premier League games.
The 24-year-old played at Burnley last season, helping the club's promotion push to the Premier League, bagging 19 goals during the process. Southampton had wanted to keep hold of Tella, but ultimately the player sought a move to Germany.
"Many younger players from the Premier League got a chance in the Bundesliga and were able to improve significantly here," Tella told Leverkusen's website.
"This is an impressive team who made it to the semi-finals of the Europa League last season. I really want to continue on this path with Bayer 04."
This season, Tella already appeared three times in the Championship, scoring a single goal, and caught the eye during his return to the second flight.
