Why Burnley Could Cause Upset Against Man United
Last weekend Burnley inflicted their second big upset of the season when they won 2-1 against Everton, despite having 35 percent possession and less than half as many shots. This Saturday The Clarets travel to Old Trafford to play an out of sorts United team, here is why they could cause yet another upset.
One of Burnley's main strengths is being extremely compact and organised. In the past couple of games they have played a 451 in the absence of their first choice striker Andre Gray, however with the English striker coming back after a 3 game ban, they have the option to revert to Dyche's favoured 442 formation. Both formations prvovide very little space in the final third and break quickly on the counter attack. In their last Premier League game United's two centre backs were very shaky when run at, and with their first choice defender Eric Bailly out for 2 months it is a weakness that could be exploited by the likes of Andre Gray when breaking quickly.
In this season alone, Sean Dyche's side have masterminded two massive upsets against Liverpool and Everton. Against Liverpool they famously only had 19 percent possession and 3 shots in comparison to Liverpool's 26 shots, the majority of which were from outside of the box, still managing to win 2 - 0. This game highlighted Burnley's goalkeeping talent in England youngster Tom Heaton, as well as their clinical finishing and if they can produce a similar performance against United they have a large chance of running away with let another win against high class opposition.
