England beat Estonia 3-0

England beat Estonia 3-0

13 October 2007 - 16:04

England continued their run of good Euro 2008 results as they notched their fifth consecutive 3-0 victory. England look bright from the off and Shaun Wright Phillips scored a well taken goal early on. Rooney grabbed another, and an own goal from an Ashley Cole shot completed the rout.

  • Omari Hutchinson wants to continue at Ipswich Town

  • It was Wayne Rooney's first international goal for three-and-a-half years, and he could've had at least three, one effort in particular was fantastic as he attempted an audacious lob over the Estonia keeper Mart Poom.

Shaun-Wright-Phillips set England on their way when his shot from the right went through keeper Mart Poom's legs.

Gareth Barry looked solid throughout and put a performance in that summed up why Steve McLaren favours the Aston Villa man over Frank Lampard.

As England took a 3-0 victory in at half time, it seemed the side came out for the second half easing off the pressure.

One injury worry came from the match with Ashley Cole picking up an injury which looked like he is almost certain to miss the travel to the Luzhniki stadium against Russia in midweek.

Sol Campbell's 70th cap couldn't have been easier and he stepped in place of John Terry and showed composure throughout.

The Estonians piled on the pressure later on as England relaxed a little, but Joe Cole and Steven Gerrard should've made it four later on, but by the end England will be happy with their performance and ready for their visit to Russia.
