Juventus reject huge Chelsea bid for Alex Sandro

17 June 2017 - 04:44

Juventus general manager Giuseppe Marotta confirmed that the club rejected a "very big offer" for left-back Alex Sandro earlier this week.

  • Chelsea to move for former Arsenal goalkeeper?
  • Former Chelsea boss to replace Erik ten Hag at Man Utd?

  • Chelsea reportedly launched a €60 million bid for Alex Sandro last week after manager Antonio Conte gave up on signing fellow Brazilian Dani Alves. However, as expected, Juventus has rejected the offer.

The news was confirmed by Juventus general manager Giuseppe Marotta, who was quoted by Football Italia in an interview with Corriere della Sera saying: "Chelsea made a very big offer for Alex Sandro. We said no, but players today are masters of their own destiny."

Juventus are not keen on selling any of their players and have acted quickly to make sure the squad, who won the domestic double and came close to winning the treble, is retained for next season. They have already extended manager Massimiliano Allegri's contract, permanently signed Juan Cuadrado from Chelsea and Mehdi Benatia from Bayern Munich, and ensured Paulo Dybala will be in the side next season.

Chelsea will likely drop their interest in the Brazilian after this and turn their attention towards Monaco left-back Benjamin Mendy. A bid of €50-60 million should be enough to pry the Frenchman away from Monaco, but Chelsea will have to compete with the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool, who are arguably more desperate for a left-back.
