Predicted Chelsea lineup (4-3-3) to face Newcastle United, Abraham and Kovacic start

18 January 2020 - 15:09

Chelsea will be aiming to register back-to-back wins in the Premier League when they face Newcastle United on the road this evening.

  • Chelsea to move for former Arsenal goalkeeper?
  • Arsenal handed huge boost ahead of Bournemouth clash

  • The Blues have a win percentage of less than 30 at St James' Park since 1992 and they face a tricky challenge despite their superiority over the Magpies.

    Predicted Lineup:

Kepa Arrizabalaga has featured for the Blues in each and every league game this term and he is expected to start in goal against Steve Bruce's side. In the backline, no changes are expected. Reece James and Cesar Azpilicueta should slot into the right and left-back positions respectively with Andreas Christensen accompanying Antonio Rudiger in the centre of the defence.

In the centre of the park, Jorginho has been a regular since his impressive showing at Arsenal. He is likely to be partnered by Ross Barkley, who has caught the eye of Lampard with his recent displays. Mateo Kovacic is likely to take up the third midfield spot after staying on the bench in the previous league meeting against Burnley.

In the attack front, Tammy Abraham is the undisputed striker for the Blues. Willian has likewise kept his spot on the right side of the attack and he is expected to start. On the opposite flank, Callum Hudson-Odoi should get the nod in the injury absence of Christian Pulisic. He has found his scoring touch with goals in successive games.

Predicted Chelsea lineup (4-3-3): Kepa Arrizabalaga, Reece James, Andreas Christensen, Antonio Rudiger, Cesar Azpilicueta, Jorginho, Ross Barkley, Mateo Kovacic, Willian, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Tammy Abraham.
