Preview: Liverpool vs Spurs

Preview: Liverpool vs Spurs

06 October 2007 - 16:36

Liverpool take on 18th placed Tottenham at Anfield and Spurs will be hoping to get their season on track after a series of disastrous performances. The future of Martin Jol still hangs in the balance and a result against Liverpool will be crucial. Liverpool themselves had a disappointing performance against Marseille in midweek, which Rafa Benitez labelled the worst of his tenure.

  • Liverpool are unbeaten in six Premiership matches against Tottenham and unbeaten in eight games in the Premiership.

Fabio Aurelio is a doubt but Javier Mascherano, Dirk Kuyt, Alvaro Arbeloa, John Arne Riise, Ryan Babel and Andriy Voronin are available to return.

Tottenham's Jermaine Jenas could return from an abdominal strain, while Dimitar Berbatov and Pascal Chimbonda should be back after being rested.

Aaron Lennon has been suffering from swelling on his knee but should be fit, while Teemu Tainio is back after a ban.

Peter Crouch has commented ahead of the crucial game: "It would be nice to get a result against Tottenham as we were disappointed with our result and performance against Marseille.

"To have a game so soon is probably a good thing, on the back of a bad result you want to be playing again straight away.

"Tottenham will be an extremely difficult game. They've got a fantastic squad. They've had an indifferent start to the season so they'll come out and attack us from the start."

    Eyefootball Premiership Predictor

    Liverpool 3-1 Tottenham

It could be all over for Martin Jol with another defeat and expect it to go this way too. Fernando Torres is likely to force his way into the lineup and can cause problems for any side. We predict that Torres will grab a goal. Liverpool are missing Xabi Alonso but the return of Mascherano could spark some excellent football from the midfield - a home win is likely.
