Manchester City ease past Wolves

Manchester City kept their five point lead at the top with a 3-1 victory over Wolves today. But they needed to hold out for the last 15 minutes with 10 men, after captain Vincent Kompany was sent off.

Goals from Edin Dzeko, Kolarov and Adam Johnson would be enough to ensure a 3-1 victory today.

The game opened up in sparkling fashion, as Samir Nasri nearly scored after just a minute, volleying a strike against Wayne Hennessey in the Wolves goal from a corner.

Man City were proving to not be at their very best for the first half, despite Sergio Aguero forcing a good save from the Wolves goalkeeper, and Edin Dzeko's cross needing to be palmed away.

Into the second half, and Man City looked back to their best straight away. The goal finally came after just a couple of minutes via Bosnian striker Edin Dzeko.

Sergio Aguero put Wayne Hennessey under pressure, and the keeper bounced his clearance against the Argentine forward, the ball then fell kindly for Dzeko to slip the ball home.

Last weekend Man City were scoring goals of sublime quality, this week they clearly were going to need some luck.

Just ten minutes later, Wayne Hennessey again proved to be at fault as he spilled David Silva's strike, and Aleksandar Kolarov was on hand to extend City's lead.

City then needed to play out the last 15 minutes with 10 men, as Kevin Doyle had been brought down in the box by Vincent Kompany. The captain was given his marching orders. Stephen Hunt stepped up to score from the penalty spot, to leave a worrying last 15 minutes for the Citizens.

However, the points would be assured in injury time as England hopeful Adam Johnson scored a wonderful curling strike from distance past Hennessey.

Man City keep their five point lead at the top of the table, and now turn their attentions to the Champions League match against Villarreal in midweek.
