Werner demanding Reds interest

Liverpool have reportedly expressed their intent to sign RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner in the summer transfer window.

The 21-year-old joined the Bundesliga outfit from Stuttgart last summer for a then-record fee of around £8m.

Werner has since made a name for himself with the newly-promoted outfit for whom he has netted 14 goals and provided four assists in 23 outings.

According to The Mail, the Reds have been keeping tabs on a number of Leipzig players including Naby Keita and Emil Forsberg this season, and Werner is the latest on their shortlist.

The German footballer is well known for his high-intensity and pressing game, and this is something Jurgen Klopp would favour in his side ahead of the 2017/18 campaign.

Werner is likely to cost upwards of £15m for the Merseyside outfit, who could, in turn, offload Daniel Sturridge to fund the move.

Despite his tender age, Werner is a senior statesman in the Bundesliga having already appeared in 117 outings - 95 with former club Stuttgart.
