Arsenal leading the hunt to sign Barcelona midfielder

Arsenal are reportedly leading the race to sign Andre Gomes from Barcelona this summer.

The Portugal international joined the Blaugrana from Valencia nearly two years ago but he has since struggled to secure a regular starting role.

As a result, he has been heavily tipped to part ways with the Spanish champions and according to ESPN, Gunners boss Unai Emery is keen to lure the 24-year-old to the Emirates Stadium.

The north London giants are already close to securing an agreement to sign Lucas Torreira from Sampdoria but Emery is nevertheless eyeing another central midfielder as he aims to make his own mark with the club.

Sevilla's Steven N'Zonzi has also been linked with the Gunners over the past few days amid claims that the Frenchman has handed in a transfer request to push through a summer exit.

Arsenal have so far pursued the signings of Stephan Lichtsteiner, Bernd Leno and Sokratis Papastathopoulos this summer with the former arriving on a Bosman agreement.
