Chelsea defender set to join new Premier League club?
Newly-promoted Championship side Aston Villa are reportedly planning an approach for Gary Cahill, whose contract with Chelsea expires at the end of June.
The 33-year-old has racked nearly 300 appearances for the Blues in the past seven years, but he is expected to end his association with the club next month after falling out-of-favour under Maurizio Sarri.
According to The Sun, a number of Premier League sides are keen on pursuing the ex-England international but the Villains are aiming to beat their rivals by proposing a contract package of their own for the centre-back.
The west Midlands outfit recently sealed their return to the Premier League after they got the better of Derby County by a 2-1 scoreline in the Championship playoff final.
Cahill, who made just two league appearances for Chelsea during the recent season, could be reunited with John Terry, who is currently the assistant to manager Dean Smith at Villa Park.
