Unai Emery reacts after Arsenal's win over Newcastle United
Arsenal manager Unai Emery has expressed his delight after the club were able to secure a win over Newcastle United in the opening game of the Premier League campaign.
The Spanish tactician picked the likes of Reiss Nelson and Joe Willock for the starting lineup against the Magpies with a number of senior players left on the bench due to fitness concerns.
As such, the Gunners were not fluent with their attacking display, but they managed to score the only goal of the game before the hour mark after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang converted from a brilliant Ainsley Maitland-Niles cross.
Speaking after the match, Emery said that the victory against the Magpies mattered the most, although a clean sheet also remains a positive, he told BBC Sport:
"But before that, I want to win. I want to win, I want to score and I want to do a clean sheet. Today we won and we did that. The balance offensively and defensively is only taken with the victory."
The likes of Nicolas Pepe, Dani Ceballos and Gabriel Martinelli made their debuts off the bench on Sunday. Arsenal sit seventh on the table after their victory at St James' Park.
