Manchester United have reportedly keeping a close watch on the proceedings of Brescia youngster Sandro Tonali as they seek to bolster their options in the midfield.

The Red Devils have parted ways with the likes of Ander Herrera and Marouane Fellaini this year but they have yet to pursue suitable replacements for the duo.

Furthermore, Nemanja Matic has recently been tipped to head through the exit door in January and it appears that United could go on a mid-season spending spree to bolster the midfield in particular.

According to The Sun, the Red Devils are monitoring the performances of Tonali, whose style of play has been likened to Italian legend and World Cup winner Andrea Pirlo.

It is added that the Red Devils are prepared to make an offer of around £40m for the 19-year-old but it is unclear whether Brescia will consider the midfielder's sale at the halfway mark of the season.

Aside from United, Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain and Inter Milan have also been credited with an interest in the teenager, who has recently compared his gameplay to Gennaro Gattuso.
