Chelsea boss provides fresh injury update on Tammy Abraham
Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has said that Tammy Abraham will go through a late fitness test to determine his involvement against Leicester City in the Premier League on Saturday.
The England international picked up an ankle injury in the 2-2 Premier League draw against Arsenal earlier this month and he subsequently missed the club's FA Cup fourth round win at Hull City.
Speaking in the press conference ahead of the Foxes game, Lampard confirmed that Abraham has returned to training with his teammates but a late decision will be taken over his fitness, given he still has pain in his ankle.
"Tammy trained today and felt okay. We need to see if there’s a reaction because it’s a pain injury, there’s a lot of pain and even in training he has pain. I’m going to look at that one overnight and test him in the morning," he told.
Michy Batshuayi and Olivier Giroud are the back-up options for the striker's role behind Abraham. Batshuayi is likely to start for the Blues at the King Power Stadium unless Abraham proves his fitness.
Giroud has been out of contention for gametime over the past couple of months due to the speculation regarding his future. He could, however, make the matchday squad on Saturday after the club decided against his sale.
