Liverpool lining up move for Benfica defender

Liverpool are reportedly plotting a summer move for Benfica's Ruben Dias with manager Jurgen Klopp said to be eyeing a new central defensive partner for Virgil van Dijk.

The 22-year-old has been linked with a Premier League move in recent years and of late, Tottenham Hotspur have been credited with an interest in his services.

However, according to The Express, the Reds are contemplating over a possible move for his signature with Klopp wanting a new player to accompany Van Dijk at the heart of the defence.

Joel Matip, Joe Gomez and Dejan Lovren have all partnered Van Dijk during the course of the season but the latter is expected to head through the exit door in the summer.

Dias' current deal with Benfica expires only in the summer of 2024. The Lisbon giants are set to demand a fee of around £55m for the defender, who has represented Portugal on 17 occasions since his debut in 2018.
