Arsenal ready to trigger buy-out clause of Atletico star

Thomas Partey news

Partey to Arsenal?

Arsenal are reportedly prepared to activate the £42m buy-out clause present in the contract of Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey.

The Ghana international has more than three years remaining on his existing deal with Atleti and he has recently suggested that he would like to extend the contract further.

However, according to Libertad Digital, the Gunners are 'very serious' about signing the versatile midfielder and they are aiming to trigger the £42m buy-out clause this summer.

Partey, who is capable of playing at right-back or central midfield, has been a crucial player for the Madrid giants in recent years and he has missed just two games in the league this season.

Arsenal have plenty of midfield options with Granit Xhaka, Lucas Torreira, Matteo Guendouzi and Dani Ceballos competing for the central roles but the latter could leave when his loan deal expires.

Partey has been on the club's radar since their time under Arsene Wenger and it appears that current boss Mikel Arteta is keen on securing the player's services at the earliest possibility.
