Arsenal target Lamptey signs new Brighton contract
Brighton and Hove Albion have agreed a new contract with talented full-back Tariq Lamptey. The right-sided defender had been monitored by both Arsenal and Bayern Munich, but the 20-year-old has instead opted to tie his long-term future to the South Coast side.
The versatile youngster has agreed to a deal until 2025 with Brighton, delighting club manager Graham Potter, who had expressed some concern that the former Chelsea defender would leave the club this summer.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta had been monitoring Lamptey's progress after a number of disappointing performances from Hector Bellerin, and interest from Germany in European giants Bayern Munich also emerged.
That being said, Brighton were unwilling to sell the defender despite a reported 75 million euro price tag.
Graham Potter said of the deal: “We are delighted to see Tariq commit his long-term future here.
"We knew his potential when we signed him a year ago, and hoped he would have a really positive impact on the club, and that has proved to be the case with his performances since June."
