Chelsea are reportedly willing to splash a club-record fee to sign Juventus defender Matthijs de Ligt next summer.

The Blues were keen on landing Sevilla's Jules Kounde last month, but failed to negotiate a suitable fee with the La Liga outfit.

They were willing to pay around €50 million up front, but the Spanish side were reluctant to sell him for less than €65m

The club have now cooled their interest in the Frenchman, and will prioritise a move for De Ligt at the end of the campaign.

The Bianconeri consider De Ligt as an indispensable player, but the Blues are ready to test their resolve with a €120m bid.

Thomas Tuchel's side are loaded with central defensive options, but they could lose two of their main centre-backs next summer.

Thiago Silva and Antonio Rudiger could leave the club at the expiry of their respective contracts. Silva, 37, wants to finish his career in Brazil.

Meanwhile, Rudiger has turned down multiple contract offers from the Blues. He is on the radar of Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.

Andreas Christensen and Cesar Azpilicueta have also entered the final year of their deals, but they are expected to sign new contracts soon.
