Man Utd step up pursuit of Konrad Laimer
Manchester United are readying a bid for RB Salzburg midfielder Konrad Laimer, setting aside a whopping 40 million euro package to secure the Austrian international's coveted signature this transfer window. Since his arrival in Germany in 2017, Laimer has appeared in over 100 games for his club.
Laimer comes highly recommended by former Man Utd coach Ralf Rangnick, who worked with the now 24-year-old as he came through the ranks at FC Liefering and RB Salzburg, then later Leipzig. With 19 caps to his name, Laimer is set to be a star for his home country for many years to come.
With the recent unimpressive form of Nemanja Matic and Fred at Old Trafford, the club have made the acquisition of a midfielder their top priority and are certain that a deal for primary target West Ham midfielder Declan Rice is very unlikely at this stage. Rice is set on a move to Chelsea, if at all.
Laimer has just one year remaining on his deal with Leipzig, who just secured their first ever domestic trophy last weekend.
