Chelsea 'desperate' to sign Bundesliga striker
Chelsea are reportedly desperate to secure the signature of Robert Lewandowski from Bayern Munich before the transfer deadline.
Bayern boss Nico Kovac recently confirmed that Lewandowski remains a key player for the Bavarian giants but the Poland international is nevertheless weighing up a departure.
According to The Star, Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri has now identified as the prime target to strengthen the frontline and he is determined to lure the Pole to Stamford Bridge.
Juventus' Gonzalo Higuain had initially been the preferred target to bolster the Blues' frontline but the Argentine decided to snub the move in order to join AC Milan on loan.
Sarri's side have also been associated with a deal for Daniele Rugani from the Bianconeri and a move could go through with Leonardo Bonucci on the cusp of rejoining the Serie A champions from AC Milan.
Chelsea have so far signed the likes of Jorginho and Rob Green in the transfer window and they are scheduled to face Arsenal in a pre-season friendly on Wednesday night.
