Manchester City to swoop for Barcelona defender?
Manchester City are reportedly preparing a mid-season move for Samuel Umtiti as they seek to improve their defensive record during the backend of the campaign.
The Cityzens have struggled in the defensive point of view this season following a serious knee injury for Aymeric Laporte and they are presently 14 points adrift of the top of the table.
According to L'Equipe, manager Pep Guardiola wants to improve the backline at the turn of the year and Umtiti has been earmarked as the prime transfer target.
Umtiti has played as back-up to Gerard Pique and Clement Lenglet for the central defensive roles at the Blaugrana and he has been restricted to just five appearances in all competitions.
A persistent knee problem has partly contributed to the Frenchman's situation but the Cityzens seem prepared to gamble on his fitness with the likes of John Stones and Nicolas Otamendi struggling to impress this campaign.
Manchester City recently suffered a 2-1 defeat to Manchester United in the derby. They have already dropped the same number of points as the previous league campaign after just 16 games.
