Chelsea enter race to sign French centre-back

Kamara to Chelsea?

Chelsea have reportedly joined Manchester City in the race to sign Boubacar Kamara from Marseille in the next transfer window.

The 20-year-old has been a regular in Andre Villas-Boas' starting lineup in recent years and he has impressed with his versatility of playing in the central defence or holding midfield.

According to Le10Sport, the French outfit are said to be considering the sale of Kamara despite the fact that they have qualified for the Champions League with a second-placed finish in the Ligue 1.

Marseille are likely to utilise the Champions League revenue to balance their finance books but they are set to incur more losses due to the ongoing coronavirus outbreak.

It is added that Frank Lampard's side are one of the clubs in the running to sign the young Frenchman, who has been compared with Paris Saint-Germain's Thiago Silva in terms of potential.

The Blues have the defensive midfield covered for next term but they may consider changes at the heart of the backline, having conceded 39 goals from 29 league outings this season.

Antonio Rudiger, Kurt Zouma, Andreas Christensen and Fikayo Tomori are currently the options at hand. Tomori is likely to be loaned out next season which could free up the space for a new signing.
