Predicted Chelsea lineup (3-4-3) vs Newcastle United, Cahill and Giroud start

Chelsea hold a slender chance of making the top four when they face-off against Newcastle United in the final gameweek of the season at St James Park.

  • Arsenal to swap Gabriel Jesus for Inter Milan star?
  • Arsenal leading race to sign Belgian midfielder

  • The Blues are currently trailing Liverpool by two points alongside a superior goal difference and their hopes of a Champions League spot are dependent on the Reds suffering a surprise defeat to Brighton whilst ensuring they pick up the maximum points versus the Magpies. The Blues have not won a league game at Newcastle since December 2011.

    Formation: 3-4-3

    Lineup:

Antonio Conte confirmed that Thibaut Courtois has returned to first-team training after a back problem and he should start against the Magpies on Sunday.

In defence, Conte may make a solitary change with Gary Cahill replacing Andreas Christensen in the three-man backline. Apart from Cahill, the likes of Cesar Azpilicueta and Antonio Rudiger are very much certain to feature.

Victor Moses should reclaim the right wing-back spot ahead of Davide Zappacosta and he is likely to be partnered by Marcos Alonso in the opposite end after scoring a fortuitous goal in the midweek draw versus Huddersfield.

In midfield, the manager may decide on adding more physique alongside N'Golo Kante and this may witness Tiemoue Bakayoko starting ahead of Cesc Fabregas.

Further ahead, Eden Hazard should return to the starting lineup on the left wing with Willian on the right whilst Olivier Giroud should lead the line after making a much better impact than Alvaro Morata of late.
