Predicted Chelsea XI vs Malmo

Predicted Chelsea lineup (4-3-3) to face Malmo, Giroud and Willian start

13 February 2019 - 12:28

Chelsea will be aiming for their first away victory of 2019 when they make the trip to Sweden to face Malmo in the first leg of the Europa League round of 32.

  • Arsenal to swap Gabriel Jesus for Inter Milan star?
  • Arsenal leading race to sign Belgian midfielder

  • The Blues were embarrassed by a convincing 6-0 scoreline by Manchester City in the league over the weekend and that presented their worst-ever showing in any competition since 1991.

With this in mind, Maurizio Sarri is expected to ring in the changes from the starting lineup and there could potentially be a complete reshuffle for the Malmo clash.

    Formation: 4-3-3

    Predicted Lineup:

Kepa Arrizabalaga was on the wrong side of the 6-0 thrashing against the Citizens last weekend and it won't come as a surprise, if he is given a rest with Willy Caballero starting in goal.

In the defence, Sarri should likewise make changes and this may witness Davide Zappacosta and Emerson in the full-back positions with Andreas Christensen potentially partnering Gary Cahill at the heart of the backline.

Similarly, the midfield may witness starts for the likes of Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Mateo Kovacic and Ethan Ampadu. Sarri has previously indicated that one of Kovacic or Ampadu may assume the holding role whenever Jorginho is rested.

Upfront, Willian could be tasked with the role on the left wing with Callum Hudson-Odoi on the opposite flank while Olivier Giroud could be handed his maiden start after four matches where Higuain has been leading the line.

Predicted XI: Willy Caballero; Davide Zappacosta, Gary Cahill, Andreas Christensen, Emerson; Mateo Kovacic, Ethan Ampadu, Ruben Loftus-Cheek; Callum Hudson-Odoi, Olivier Giroud, Willian
