Arsenal plan to sign new left-back in the summer

Arsenal will sign new left-back this summer

Arsenal will aim to sign a new left-back during the summer transfer window, a report from The Athletic claims.

The Gunners sent Sead Kolasinac on loan to Schalke 04 last month and that left them without a specialist option to back-up Kieran Tierney.

Mikel Arteta was keen on landing someone before the transfer deadline, but the Gunners were unable to pursue any suitable targets.

According to The Athletic, the hierarchy were content to delay the pursuit as their preferred targets were not available in the market.

Cedric Soares, Bukayo Saka and Granit Xhaka are the potential options at Arteta's disposal for the left-back role with Tierney injured.

The Scotland international has been out with a lower leg injury, but he is expected to return to action in the near future.

Meanwhile, it is revealed that the Gunners were not interested in either Ryan Bertrand or Patrick van Aanholt in the recent transfer window.

Both players have their respective contracts expiring in June, but the Gunners are unlikely to approach either player.

Kolasinac is expected to be sold in the summer with him deemed surplus to requirements by Arteta.

The Gunners have their sights on landing a young left-back, who can offer strong competition to Tierney.
