Predicted Manchester City lineup (4-3-3) to face Schalke 04, Aguero and Sterling start

12 March 2019 - 15:34

Manchester City will be aiming to make progress in the Champions League when they host Schalke 04 in the second leg of the round of 16 tonight.

  • Arsenal to swap Gabriel Jesus for Inter Milan star?
  • Arsenal leading race to sign Belgian midfielder

  • The Citizens grabbed a fantastic 3-2 comeback win over the Bundesliga outfit on the road and they are now favourites to reach the last eight, barring another strong performance from the Gelsenkirchen side.

    Formation: 4-3-3

    Predicted Lineup:

Ederson remains the undisputed choice for the goalkeeping duties and the Brazilian should definitely retain his position between the sticks for tonight's encounter.

In the defence, Kyle Walker and Oleksandr Zinchenko are likely to command the right and left-back positions once more but there is expected to be an enforced change in central defence.

Nicolas Otamendi is suspended after his red card in the reverse fixture and this may witness Aymeric Laporte return to the fray to partner captain Vincent Kompany at the heart of the backline.

In the midfield, Ilkay Gundogan will again take up the holding role with Fernandinho sidelined with a groin concern. The Brazilian will still have missed the game with the one-match suspension after reaching the yellow card limit for a ban.

Alongside Gundogan, Bernardo Silva and David Silva are the likely candidates to feature with Kevin de Bruyne still on the sidelines after his muscular problem earlier in the month.

In the frontline, Raheem Sterling will certainly start on the right flank after his match-winning hat-trick against Watford last weekend and he could be partnered by Leroy Sane on the opposite end.

Upfront, Guardiola is expected to stick with Sergio Aguero ahead of Gabriel Jesus. The Argentine has netted just once in the past four matches but he remains the undisputed choice to lead the line.
