Stunning Arsenal go five points clear

The Gunners have moved five points clear at the top of the Premier League after a stunning 2-0 victory over Liverpool at the Emirates yesterday. Two excellent goals from Santi Cazorla and Aaron Ramsey secured the victory.

With Chelsea slipping to a surprise 2-0 defeat away at Newcastle earlier during the day, Arsene Wenger knew that a victory today would boost Arsenal's own title hopes and thus giving the Gunners a respectable 25 points from their first 10 league games.

The game started at a frenetic pace, with both teams looking to make the first break and open the scoring. Liverpool's impressive strike duo of Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez were playing in and around the box, as the likes of Jordan Henderson and Steven Gerrard aimed for the breakthrough pass.

Then, against the run of play, Santi Cazorla opened the scoring in the 19th minute. A cross in from Bacary Sagna was headed against the post by the Spaniard, but the midfielder was on hand to volley home the rebound into the top of Simon Mignolet's net.

Jordan Henderson thought he had levelled when he tucked home a neat finish in the Arsenal net, but it would be ruled out by the referee after Luis Suarez had been deemed to have taken the assisting free kick too quickly.

At half time, Aly Cissokho was replaced by the fit again Philippe Coutinho, in an effort to pull back a goal from Brendan Rodgers' side.

The three points were wrapped up in the 59th minute as Aaron Ramsey - who has now scored 10 goals so far this season - teed up a cheeky cross from Mesut Ozil and then rifled home a stunning strike from 20 yards into the top of the Liverpool net. Scenes of joy at the Emirates as the Gunners' extended their lead at the top of the table.

There were a few opportunities later on for further goals as Olivier Giroud went close twice, once chipping the ball against the post and another toe poke that would be saved well by keeper Simon Mignolet. Suarez is also went close with a strike against the post and arguably Daniel Sturridge should have done better in the 88th minute as the England international tracked down a poor pass from Arsenal keeper Wojciech Szczesny but his strike went straight back at the shot stopper.

Arsene Wenger will be delighted that his team have continued their excellent stretch of good form and now travel to Borussia Dortmund in midweek for a crucial Champions Leauge game.
