Man City face competition from Bayern Munich for Sané
Manchester City face competition from German champions Bayern Munich in their pursuit of Leroy Sané.
New City boss Pep Guardiola has already begun moulding the Premier League club in his image with the signings of Ilkay Gundogan, Nolito and Alexandr Zinchesko.
And it is believed that the Catalan coach is extremely keen to bring in Sané from Schalke 04, with the 20-year-old having been rumoured to be on the brink of a £42 million switch to the Etihad.
But City's pursuit of Sané may be about to hit a snag, as Bayern Munich have entered the race to sign the Germany international.
An injury to Arjen Robben in a friendly match last week, has meant that Bayern will be without the speedy Dutch winger as they begin their defence of the Bundesliga title.
New manager Carlo Ancelotti is thought to be keen to add Sané to his wide options, which already includes Douglas Costa, Kingsley Coman and Franck Ribery.
Sané had a breakout campaign for Schalke last season, scoring eight goals and registering seven assists.
His impressive performances led to him being selected in Joachim Lowe's Germany squad for the UEFA European Championship in France. Sané made only one appearance during the competition, coming on as a late substitute in the semi-final defeat to the host nation.
City are also thought to be poised to move for Everton defender John Stones, with the Toffees holding out for £50 million for the young defender.
