Southampton interested in signing Chelsea defender
Southampton are reportedly looking into an approach for Chelsea's Gary Cahill as they seek to shore up their defence at the turn of the year.
Cahill has managed just over 200 minutes of first-team action since the season started and out of those, he has managed just half an hour in the Premier League.
As such, there has been regular speculation regarding the Englishman's future and The Mirror suggests that he may evaluate his position when the transfer window reopens in the New Year.
It is added that the Saints could be among the leading candidates to acquire their services with Mark Hughes concerned with the backline which has failed to hold onto leads this term.
Southampton are scheduled to entertain Chelsea in tomorrow's league meeting at St Mary's and Cahill may only make the bench with David Luiz and Antonio Rudiger being the preferred picks under the tutelage of new head coach Maurizio Sarri.
