Predicted Man Utd line-up (4-2-2-2) vs Aston Villa, Lindelof and Fernandes start
Manchester United welcome Aston Villa to Old Trafford for tonight's FA Cup third round tie.
The Red Devils recently suffered a 1-0 loss to Wolves in the Premier League. Ralf Rangnick will be hoping for a better showing against the Villans.
The German has revealed that he may not make wholesale changes, but there should be opportunities for some of the bench players from last weekend.
Formation:
David de Gea has been spectacular between the sticks throughout the campaign. He has kept Dean Henderson regularly on the bench. The United graduate may get a rare outing tonight.
Diogo Dalot looks set to replace Aaron Wan-Bissaka at right-back with Luke Shaw on the other end. Alex Telles is in contention, but Shaw may feature as he is suspended for the next league game at Villa Park.
Victor Lindelof has been deemed fit after recovering from Covid-19.With Harry Maguire unfit and Raphael Varane potentially rested, he could partner Phil Jones at the heart of the backline. Eric Bailly is away on AFCON duty.
Scott McTominay recently picked up his fifth yellow card booking of the Premier League campaign. He will now serve a one-game ban which is competition specific. The Scot is widely expected to start in midfield tonight.
He could be accompanied by Fred, who has been his regular midfield partner. The Brazilian has been on the bench in recent games, but should get the nod over Nemanja Matic this time around.
Further forward, Jadon Sancho and Edinson Cavani could drop to the bench. Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford were restricted to cameos against Wolves, and could start in the wide attacking roles.
Cristiano Ronaldo appears certain to take up one of the centre-forward positions. He could line up alongside Mason Greenwood. Rangnick admitted recently that he could have avoided taking him off against Wolves.
Predicted Man Utd line-up (4-2-2-2): Henderson; Dalot, Jones, Lindelof, Shaw; McTominay, Fred; Fernandes, Rashford; Greenwood, Ronaldo.
