Predicted Chelsea line-up (3-4-2-1) vs Real Madrid, James and Pulisic start

Chelsea host Real Madrid in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final tie today.

  • Chelsea suffer double injury blow ahead of Villa trip
  • Mikel Arteta confirms big injury boost for Spurs clash

  • The Blues recently suffered their first defeat in seven games with a heavy 4-1 loss at the hands of Brentford.

Thomas Tuchel will be eyeing a strong response from his side when they face off against the Madrid giants.

    Formation: 3-4-2-1

    Predicted Line-up:

Edouard Mendy has been the first-choice goalkeeper for the Premier League and European games. The Senegal star is expected to continue between the sticks ahead of Kepa Arrizabalaga.

In defence, Tuchel should revert to a back three after the 4-3-3 formation failed miserably against Brentford. We fancy the experienced trio of Cesar Azpilicueta, Thiago Silva and Antonio Rudiger to start in central defence.

Reece James made his injury comeback in the second half against the Bees. He should be guaranteed his place at right wing-back. The same should be the case with Marcos Alonso on the opposite flank. Malang Sarr has generally operated from left-back.

In the centre of the park, Tuchel should go with his trusted pairing of Jorginho and N'Golo Kante, who were instrumental in the club's European glory last term with stand-out displays. Jorginho has bagged an assist in his each of his last two appearances.

Kai Havertz is a nailed-on starter up front with six goal contributions since February. Behind him, Mason Mount is an ever-present figure under Tuchel, and could be accompanied by Christian Pulisic, who scored in both legs of the Champions League last 16 tie against Lille.

Predicted Chelsea line-up (3-4-2-1): Mendy; Azpilicueta, Silva, Rudiger; James, Jorginho, Kante, Alonso; Mount, Pulisic; Havertz.
