Predicted Chelsea lineup (3-4-1-2) vs Southampton, Werner and Mount start

02 October 2021 - 13:15

Chelsea host Southampton in the Premier League this afternoon. The Blues have suffered back-to-back defeats across all competitions and will be looking to return to winning ways.

  • Arsenal to swap Gabriel Jesus for Inter Milan star?
  • Arsenal leading race to sign Belgian midfielder

  • Formation: 3-4-1-2

    Predicted Lineup:

Edouard Mendy remains the undisputed number one for the Blues when fit and available. He is expected to start ahead of Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Thiago Silva could be handed a breather as he is deemed to be carrying a minor injury concern. Cesar Azpilicueta could drop into the back three alongside Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen.

With Reece James out of action with an ankle issue, Callum Hudson-Odoi looks set to start at right wing-back. On the other end, there could be a maiden league appearance of the season for Ben Chilwell.

Chilwell has been an unused substitute this term with Marcos Alonso excelling in his position, but the Spaniard has recently looked out of pace, and may be benched against the Saints.

Jorginho has been subbed in the past two outings with Ruben Loftus-Cheek coming in. The latter has excelled in his cameos and may start alongside Mateo Kovacic in the centre of the park.

N'Golo Kante remains unavailable due to coronavirus. Elsewhere, Kai Havertz and Hakim Ziyech could be benched after underwhelming displays in the midweek Juventus defeat.

Mason Mount looks set to return to the mix after a minor injury. He should feature in the number 10 spot with Timo Werner getting anothe chance up front alongside Romelu Lukaku.

Predicted Chelsea lineup (3-4-1-2): Mendy; Azpilicueta, Christensen, Rudiger; Hudson-Odoi, Kovacic, Loftus-Cheek, Chilwell; Mount; Werner, Lukaku.
