Predicted Chelsea line-up (4-3-2-1) vs Southampton, Ziyech and Sarr start
Chelsea welcome Southampton to Stamford Bridge for the fourth round of the Carabao Cup tonight. The Blues are on a four-match winning streak, and recently registered a stunning 7-0 league win over Norwich City.
Formation: 4-3-2-1
Predicted Line-up:
Edouard Mendy has been the Blues' first-choice goalkeeper for the league and European games. He should be given a breather with Kepa Arrizabalaga likely to start between the sticks.
Thomas Tuchel played with a four-man backline in the Carabao Cup last time around, and he could repeat the same. Andreas Christensen and Malang Sarr were on the bench against the Canaries.
They are likely to start in central defence tonight. Cesar Azpilicueta was another on the bench over the weekend. The club captain should start at right-back with Marcos Alonso on the opposite end.
N'Golo Kante is fit for selection after a minor muscle injury, but he may not be risked. Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic may also be rested. We fancy a midfield trio of Saul Niguez, Ross Barkley and Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
Further forward, there could be a solitary change on the cards. Tuchel has already hinted that Callum Hudson-Odoi will start while Kai Havertz could also feature in the false number nine role with injuries to Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner.
Mason Mount bagged his maiden hat-trick in the 7-0 rout of the Canaries, but he could be rested for this game. Hakim Ziyech has looked out of sorts since his shoulder injury. The Moroccan could partner Hudson-Odoi in attack behind Havertz.
Predicted Chelsea line-up (4-3-2-1): Arrizabalaga; Azpilicueta, Christensen, Sarr, Alonso; Niguez, Barkley, Loftus-Cheek; Ziyech, Hudson-Odoi; Havertz.
