Predicted Chelsea lineup (4-3-3) vs Liverpool, Cahill and Hazard start
Chelsea will seek to continue their unbeaten start to the campaign when they make the trip to Anfield to face Liverpool in tonight's League Cup third round tie.
The Blues witnessed their perfect record cease after a goalless stalemate against West Ham United last weekend but they will be determined to pick up a positive result against the Reds whom they also face in the Premier League on Sunday.
Formation: 4-3-3
Lineup:
Maurizio Sarri has resisted the prospect of making wholesale changes to his starting XI this term and this is likely to witness Kepa Arrizabalaga make his eighth-straight appearance between the sticks.
In defence, Cesar Azpilicueta may find himself replaced by Davide Zappacosta just like in the Europa League opener but Marcos Alonso could retain his position on the opposite end with Sarri not placing much confidence on the abilities of Emerson Palmieri.
Antonio Rudiger is very much certain to miss the midweek game after sustaining a knock late on against West Ham and his absence may witness a maiden start of the season for club-captain Gary Cahill, who has been craving for gametime. Alongside him, David Luiz is expected to feature having been ever-present since the season started.
Onto the midfield, Sarri has yet to think about the prospect of resting duo N'Golo Kante and Jorginho and the pair may continue featuring for the Blues in the centre of the park, given the testing nature of the Cup tie. Alongside them, Ross Barkley may get the nod ahead of Mateo Kovacic after emerging as a better attacking threat during the backend of the Hammers stalemate on Sunday.
In attack, Pedro is likely to miss the encounter after his minor shoulder problem sustained against PAOK and this should witness regulars Willian and Eden Hazard feature on the right and left wing respectively. With Olivier Giroud failing to score last weekend, Sarri may once more rotate his striking options with Alvaro Morata probably getting the nod to lead the line against Jurgen Klopp's side.
